Why isnt my message sending?

A freind is texting me from their ipod and ipad and I receive the text but the dont recieve my message or FaceTime. Why is it not working??

Only iMessage, no Text messages on ipad On iPad Air, WiFi, no cellular: suddenly I cannot send text message or receive from phones other than iPhones. text message forwarding is turned on on my iPhone. I have turned iMessage and FaceTime off, turned off iPad, turned iPad on and then turned iMessage and FaceTime back on. Doesn’t help. When I type in a name to begin a text, if it is someone without an iPhone, the name is red and I get a message that the number is not registered with iMessage. help!
