Migrated photos from iPhoto to Photo. Dates and other information no longer available. Photos not sorted in date order. All is now a mess. Must have done something wrong but don’t know what?

Tried to follow various instructions for migration but found it too, too difficult.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Then you did something wrong, How did you migrate? A correct migration does not lose any of that information - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9721

Photos not sorted in date order.

And photos are sorted in different orders depending on where you are looking - in Photo they are in photo date order with the newest last, in Imports they are date of import to Photo order with the newest last, in user albums they can be in photo date order ascending or descending or alpha title sort

Tried to follow various instructions for migration but found it too, too difficult.

Sorry if these are too difficult for you - they are really simple so since they are "too, too difficult" for you you seriously need to go take some training classes

You stated that simple instructions were too, too difficult

Tried to follow various instructions for migration but found it too, too difficult.

I simply responded with a valid solution to your stated problem

It is true that using extreme hyperbole instead of accurate details can be confusing, but that is on you not me

Enjoy your day - from one "very nearly" octogenarian (and again you result to useless hyperbole) to another [as an octogenarian (well very nearly)]

Hello LarryHN. Thank you for your helpful comments.

Next time I am sitting in front of my laptop I will review the migrated photo information (time, date, etc.) again, now that I have the benefit of your explanation of what I should find, in mind. Reassuring thanks.

I suspect I carried out an unorthodox method of transfer and next time I open my laptop I will check and let you know what I did and you can tell me what I probably did wrong!

Maybe my wording about the instructions was a bit over the top. But as an octogenarian (well very nearly) it is bit frustrating to try to decide which of the several methods described were going to be right for my set up, and then to try to follow generic descriptions which don’t always match what I see on the screen becomes rather exasperating. Hence my comment.

With respect to your advice about needing to “go take some training classes“ I found that to be a trifle patronising.

Shame that you found it necessary to go that far!

Apart from that your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Photos for Mac is very different from IPhoto, and it is not surprising that you find it a bit confounding directly after the migration. By default, most of the metadata will be hidden. But you can see the information by opening the Info panel with command-I. Many library items are predefined and will be created automatically for you, like the moments, that are replacing the events. Once you se, how the predefined items are to be used, you can save a lot of work, when organizing your Photos Library.
