Home Sharing Issues

Recently, I downloaded new songs onto my MacBook Air but I did not purchase them through iTunes. I synced them to my iPhone 8, but they won't show up in my downloaded music, only in my Home Sharing. I don't like Home Sharing because it has to download my Mac's music library each time. When I checked iTunes to see if the songs were downloaded to my device they were grayed out and had a dotted circle before it. When I tried to turn off Home Sharing, the music still would not download to my phone. I also tried manually adding these songs to my device's music library but that didn't work either. How can I get these songs onto my device?
