I have an iphone 6 that i bought from a friend who upgraded and got a new phone. so my question is does that warranty still go with this phone??

Yes. The warranty stays with device. If the device is loess than a year old, it still has warranty time left, it can be used.

If the device is more than a year old, then there would be no warranty left on it to use unless AppleCare+ was purchased for it.
