System Preferences -> Network reports for one wifi channel, "No IP" and "No Internet connection" -- but the channel works. What's that about?

I set up a new Arris gateway provided by Cox Cable.

The gateway has two channels, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. I have no problems accessing the Internet with either channel, ethernet or wifi. However, in System Preferences -> Network, while the 5 GHz channel is correctly reported to have an IP and a connection to the Internet, the 2.4 GHz channel is incorrectly reported as having "No IP" and "No internet connection." Why the incorrect reporting? And does it mean something else is in error?

Thanks for relating your ideas and similar experiences, if any.
