CarPlay issues with new iOS- reading/ writing texts

I have had CarPlay for a while and recently starting having issues with Siri reading texts I receive or letting me speak into the system to compose a text. All other components of CarPlay appear fine but when I get a text, it pops up on screen but when I click to read it out loud.. the system just beeps and doesn’t read it. Similarly, when I click on a person to text in the textbook menu- I will speak a message and the Siri just beeps again and does not send the message. I am updated to most recent iOS and checked my system setting and don’t know what issue could be?
