"iPhone X will not sync because sync session failed to start"

Why all of a sudden is my 2017 iMac telling me that it cannot sync my iPhone because the sync session failed to start. It worked fine yesterday. I change nothing, and I am running the latest version of everything. It sees the iPhone— it shows up in iTunes. All of the information about the phone under the summary tab is correct. What is going on?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iPad, iPhone5, &Macbook Air 11" too
