GPS not working after reset

Hi and thanks for taking the time to see my question!

GPS hasn't been working on my iPhone 6 when on 4G. I started off doing the general advice of 'off and on again' with location services, network setting reset, checked data, checked signal strength etc etc.

When I use Maps or Google maps the GPS has completely fallen off, I can look up a destination, I can get the route, but once the phone starts to use the GPS as a sat nav, it fails to leave the starting point.

I have done full restore with back up through iTunes and I have iOS 11.2.6 installed.

What else can I do???

Please help if you have any idea of how to deal with this issue!

Many thanks in advance.

Hi vlem,

I understand that when using 4G on your iPhone, the GPS is not accurate, regardless of the app you're using. You've done a lot of great troubleshooting already, and I'm happy to provide some additional help.

I recommend going through the steps in the article below to help with GPS accuracy:

About privacy and Location Services in iOS 8 and later - Apple Support

Improve GPS accuracy

GPS accuracy depends on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. To improve GPS accuracy:

  • Make sure that you've set the date, time, and time zone correctly on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
  • Keep a clear view in several directions. Walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this happens, your device uses Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position until the GPS satellites are visible again.

You can also help to improve the accuracy by ensuring that you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled on your iPhone.

If you continue having this issue, let us know if this happens everywhere, or just in certain locations.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Many thanks for your reply ...

I have used my iPhone as a sat nav for a number of years and it has proved an excellent tool - I am often on call outs, go to new addresses on a daily basis and change locations of work at the drop of a hat as an electrician ...

It has just decided not to work at all!

I have gone through all the trouble shooting sites I can find and a couple of days ago too the step of a full restore to see if that would help - took the phone out on a journey I know well so that I wasn't depending on it and once again, it doesn't move from the starting location, its almost like the GPS has just fallen off completely.

Is there something further I can do or will I need to take it into an Apple shop? (Something I would rather not do as I don't have a lot of spare time!)

Many thanks for your help.
