Question: Brother printer MFC-J4620DW - does it support AirPrint ?
According to About AirPrint - Apple Support, brother printer MFC-J4620DW supports AirPrint. But I am unable to use it as an AirPrint printer from my MacBook, iPad or iPhone. When I print anything, the printer just hangs: it shows message "receiving data" on its front panel and prints nothing. I have to cancel the job on the printer (click the big red cross), otherwise the printer just locks-up completely.
I finally resolved that for my macBook by installing specific drivers from the Brother web site. Installation instructions said to use the printer in CUPS mode (instead of the default AirPrint). Then printing works, but that also means that this printer is not AirPrint-compatible.
I see that the drivers I installed from the Brother web site are version 4.0.8. But I also see that Apple offers a more recent version (4.1.1): Brother Printer Drivers 4.1.1 for OS X. I will try those ...
But then that does not help for iOS: the Brother support site says that I need to install a specific Brother app in order to print ... This is a mighty inconvenience (to stay polite) and defeats the whole idea of AirPrint ...
I have been using numerous printers from different manufacturers in all sorts of places. All have always been AirPrint ready: from my iPhone I would just request printing, then choose the printer from the list that automatically appears ... and just print. Brother printers (at least this model seems different).
Brother support is useless. They don't even know what I am talking about. I am so sorry I bought this printer.
Has anyone seen the same ?
