-If I buy a TMobile iphoneX from the Apple Store on the Apple Upgrade Program (meaning I pay for it monthly, and NOT pay full price), will I be able to put in a local SIM-card from India and use it there?

You have to buy an unlocked phone.

If you buy a phone in the USA it will not be covered by warranty in India.
Remember, you will pay US taxes and you will probably have to pay Indian customs and duty.
Many people are attracted by cheaper phone prices in the USA but it can lead to problems with compatibility and should a problem arise.
