iPad overheated with Touch ID icon on screen

After charging my iPad Pro 12.9 overnight I found it on a strange black screen with the Touch ID icon in the middle. The entire iPad was very hot and the black screen was showing some faint red and orange colors moving around. When I pressed the home button everything worked fine and it was back to normal. Has anyone else seen this?

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 10.3.1
