Will Time Capsule router work with Airport Express as extender?

I use my A1355 Time Capsule as the wifi router in our house. To improve signal strength in some areas, I'm thinking of using an extender. Would an A 1264 Airport Express (which a friend is getting rid of) do the job as well as an Airport Extreme, and does it matter which generation of either I use for the purpose?

The AirPort Express will not come close the performance offered by an AirPort Extreme, but it might be good enough for what you want to do.

Borrow the AirPort Express for a day or two, and try it out. Locate the AirPort Express about half way between the Time Capsule and the general area where you need additional wireless signal coverage.

Many thanks for your swift response.

In Britain, where I am, I can find on ebay a well-working 4th generation AirPort Extreme for about £15, with earlier versions cheaper, and given your advice and the price I think I should go for the Extreme rather than the Express once I'm getting into this. Would the generation of the device make much difference?
