New MacBook Pro gets gray screen after initial setup from a backup hard drive.

Brand new (2018, 256 RAM, 1 TB ssd) computer. Rather than use Migration Assistant to back up from another computer, I used a Time Machine backup from an external hard drive. When it finished the backup, the computer's screen remains light gray with a cursor.... nothing else!

Anyone have a suggestion as what to do next?

How do you backup your MacBook Pro when hardware is failing and not able to be repaired I just turned on my MacBook Pro to see a white screen with circle with a line through it. When attempting to repair, I get a message saying that the hardware has failed and is unable to be repaired. It says that I need to backup as much data as possible before proceeding. I have no idea how to backup my data at this point. There is no option to choose Time Machine. Can anyone help me figure this out? Looks like I need to back up data before bringing it into a repair shop. Thanks!

Grey screen Hi, I'm on a iMac (27-inch, Late2012) with Catalina 10.15.5 and use a 'My Passport' for the Time Machine back-up - everything has been fine for years. But the last few days on start-up I get a grey screen and nothing happens until I un-plug the 'My Passport', then life carries on as normal. I can plug it in again and do backups and everything is fine. The Mac only has the original 2 memory modules and 2 empty ones. Do I need to get a couple more memory modules? If so which are best? Many thanks
