completed reminders wont stay marked as completed

Every time I check a completed reminder, it unchecked itself. I have “hide completed” set, but it doesn’t go away and “hide,” it unchecks itself and stays uncompleted. IPhone X iOS 11.2.6

Hello lyndafromfl,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to mark reminders as complete in the Reminders app, as it un-checks itself on your iPhone. If you haven't already, please force close the Reminders app and restart your device as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on.

If you're still having this issue, please remove the Reminders app and reinstall the app, as this removes configuration files that maybe causing this issue.

Remove a built-in app from your Home screen

  1. On your iOS device, touch and hold the app lightly until it jiggles. If the app doesn't jiggle, make sure that you're not pressing too hard.
  2. Tap User uploaded file on the app, then tap Remove.
  3. Press the Home button to finish.

If you have an Apple Watch, removing an app from your iPhone also removes that app from your Apple Watch.

Restore a built-in app that you removed

  1. On your iOS device, go to the App Store.
  2. Search for the app. Make sure that you use the exact name of the app. Find the correct name of built-in apps.
  3. Tap User uploaded file to restore the app.
  4. Wait for the app to restore, then open it from your Home screen.

If you have an Apple Watch, restoring an app to your iPhone also restores that app to your Apple Watch.

Thanks for replying, lyndafromfl, and that additional info, it really helps! At this point, we would like you to reinstall iOS on your device; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on

Use the “Update” option and not “Restore” and these steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further. Have a great day and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
