My macbook pro mid 2010 model 17inch running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 is very difficult to startup. After many tries and many hours finally it will start. What could be the problem?

Have tried Shift+Command+Option while holding the power button - Reset SMC. No effect.

Have tried Command + ALT + P + R after pressing the power button - Reset PVRAM. No effect.

Have tried Repairing the Disk through disk Utility. No effect.

Hey there, brenmend72,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. If I understand your post, you're having some trouble getting your MacBook Pro to boot. While eventually it will, it takes quite some time to do so. I'm happy to help!

I see that you have already tried to reset the SMC and NVRAM, and using Disk Utility First Aid to repair, but none of those steps have helped so far. I also noticed you are receiving a panic report. The panic report leads me to believe that what's going on is related to something called a kernel panic. You can get more information on kernel panics, and some additional troubleshooting steps, here: If your Mac spontaneously restarts or displays a message that it restarted or shut down because of a problem - Apple Support and also here: macOS Sierra: If your Mac restarts and a message appears .

Please go through those two articles and complete any steps you have not already completed. If your issue continues, please reach out to Apple Support directly for more assistance: Contact Apple Support .

Enjoy your day!

Hi Allen,

Thanks for your reply.

My system seems to be working fine for now. Ever since I got it started I ran First Aid. And since then I haven't shut down my MacBook pro. I just log off, disconnect the power adapter and when I need to use it again I plug in the adapter and then startup.

So far it seems to be working fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks anyways.

My macbook pro mid 2010 model 17inch running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 is very difficult to startup
