International unlock?

Ive just purchased iphone x from apple store today for the first time. Im planning on taking a trip overseas in 4 months for a while. If i buy the local sim from the country and just input will it work?? Does the phone purchased from apple store come with international unlock?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. First of all, congratulations on your new iPhone! It's always fun getting a new piece of technology to play around with. Secondly, I understand you're curious about unlocking your new iPhone for international use, and I'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction.

I can see where grabbing a SIM card from the international carrier you want to use would seem like a good option, but you'd actually find doing this would render cell service to the iPhone unusable. Instead, what you'll want to do is contact the carrier that currently provides service to your iPhone, and let them know you'd like it unlock for international usage. It mentions this in the article but I still wanted to highlight the importance of it so you don't end up caught in a bind when it comes time to take your trip: it can take your carrier a few days to unlock your SIM card for international service, so plan ahead and request it in advance.

I have taken my iPhone on numerous overseas trips and never had it unlocked. I call my carrier prior to going over seas and have my iPhone place on their overseas plan. This allows me to make calls at a very reasonable rate. When I return home I call my carrier again to have it removed from their overseas plan.

Did you specifically ask for an unlocked phone when you bought it? If so it will be unlocked. You can find out by contacting Apple support; they can tell you the lock status. If it IS locked contact your carrier to find out their unlocking policy.
