Mail messages arriving with senders name incorrect

I'm getting answers to emails where the person writing to me is not the person listed in the 'sender' box.

Sometimes the emails are scrambled also.

Any ideas as to how to sort this out? and why has this happened?

Try rebuilding the mailbox.

Rebuild mailbox

If that doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3. Sierra use V4. High Sierra use V5.

That's so kind, thank you. I looked at the 'Rebuild' link and it looks pretty straightforward so I'll do that.

This strange thing happened with my emails just after I installed Avast and Malwarebytes to try to ensure my MAC was safe. I uninstalled both as I wondered if one of these installations had somehow interfered with the normal flow of my beloved MAC.

Thanks again!
