Printer problems
Mac Pro is an older model, circa 2006/7. OS only has Lion 10.7.5 and cannot be updated. Bought a Canon wireless printer and unable to download drivers because of this.
Any work around for this situation?
Thanks

Canon is showing a driver for 10.7 on its web site here:
it is called a CUPS Driver. CUPS has been the been the built-in Print spooler for MacOS for a long time. Apple was already using CUPS, and bought the CUPS software from Easy Software Products about the time of MacOS 10.2. CUPS is already in place in your Mac -- there is nothing additional you need to do (except install the canon Driver).
A scanner Driver is also showing just below that.
All it takes to combine your two Routers into ONE cooperating network is to change them so that both use the same Network-name, and both use the same encryption method and password.
Then they stop competing with each other and may provide better service for you.
The network-name proffered by any Router should be changeable as all configuration options, by connecting to the Router using your Browser and entering the admin password.
Just type the Router IP address into your Browser, similar to:
192.168.0.1
and hit return.
Your network could lo be using different strictly-local number such as:
10.0.0.1
Apple does not use this method. Airport uses Airport Utility.app, which should be in /Applications/Utilities.
The information supplied by century link is as follows:
Model #: C1100T
SSID: centurylink 0670
Security type: WPA2-AES
Key/Passphrase: 3k886nv92nhmcy
GUI Address: 192.168.0.1
Admin username: admin
Admin Password: 5Mf3raxm
After a long talk with someone from century link in a foreign land I changed my password to: novanutz1.
The tech guy here (not in a foreign land and now with century link) set up the airport extreme with the name of Nelson and password of juanfordroad. This is my extent of knowledge regarding names and passwords.
Any suggestions will be appreciated (as always).
the item that needs to be the same is the SSID filed on the century link, and on the Airport Utility.app, the
Wireless > Wireless Network Name
Along with that, the password for WPA2 is the one that needs to match on each to combine them into one Network.
Option-Wi-Fi should now show you connected to your new network, and should NOT show any of the old networks as an option to connect to.
Wireless Diagnostics has a "Scan" display that can show you all the defies nearby and what they are doing:
You can drag and drop that on Preview to see it larger. It just show all my home Routers.
Thank you for your quick reply. Model number is MX 490.
Another thought occurred to me (I sometimes get those):
I ate too much lead paint as a child...
Cheers
Not quite sure where you're going. When I performed the option maneuver I received the same results as you but don't know how to make use of it...
Too many lost neurons???
Correction; it says to push the 'wps' button, then press 'ok' on printer..
Did I mention I have an iPad? I'm also not able to connect it with the printer.
You have a Century-Link Router AND an Airport Express?
are you using two network-names?
Yes. I would prefer having ONLY the airport express but the tech guy said I had to use both in order to have the airport express...
So is this a good thing or a dangerous thing?
I don't think century link would agree to change 'their name' so how do you suggest I change the airport name to theirs?
OK. I made those changes which seems to solve mystery #1. What remains is to get the printer to tag along and start printing...
