Fail to start up after installing High Sierra

i finally gave in and upgraded to High Sierra. The installation seemed to go smoothly, I even used the computer after the automatic restart, but after a two day shut down the Mac will not start up again, tried several times but always get this message:

macOS could not be installed on your computer

The path/System/Installation/PackageS/OSinstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged.

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

Well, same message all the time

iMac 27” Mid 2011, 16 Ram

can anybody help me in solving this problem?

Thanks

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Thank you Kappy for your reply.

Was able to start up in Safe Mode, then accessing the App Store where I found a follow-up update to OS 10.13.3 which took a long time to install, but now the Mac restarted in High Sierra without problem.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me. Dieter
