iMac will not start.

My friends iMac will not start.

This message comes up :

"mac OS could not be installed on your computer.

The path / system / installation / packages / OS install.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged.

Quit the installer to restart your computer & try again."

The OS ( High Sierra ) has been installed for months, so has anybody an idea why this message appears ?

A restart just brings the same message back.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you boot with shift button pressed, you will be able to enter safe mode and try to download and reinstall an update.

If it doesn't help, boot holding

Option
key and chose
Mac HD
. Boot to your Mac without safe mode and try to reinstall the update.
