iTunes sync with Desktop Outlook

Until just recently, I have been syncing my iPhone and iPad contacts and calendar with my PC desktop Outlook 2013 or 2016 via the iTunes USB connection for many, many years. (It quit working with the Outlook 2013 so I upgraded to Outlook 2016 with no success) I cannot figure out why I can’t get this to work. I have read every article I can find and have tried everything (verified correct settings in iTunes -> Info, verified no iCloud sync, completed a scanpst.exe, uninstalled iTunes and reloaded many, many times). I have noticed that I no longer have the iTunes COM add-in in my Outlook. Isn’t this needed to sync iTunes with the desktop Outlook? If so, how can I reinstall the iTunes COM add-in to my PC desktop Outlook 2016? If not this, anything else you can think of? Thanks!

iPhone 8, iOS 11.2.6

Thanks for the reply.

I have been searching for over a week and also feeling SOL. I did try the conversion to iCloud. The positive is that you have an easier sync and able to include tasks and notes from your PC desktop Outlook which is nice, but I didn’t like how it interfaced with Outlook and reverted back. If you do try this, make sure you first make a backup copy of your Outlook.pst and rename so that you have available to easily revert back. If you don’t, you will have a heck of a time getting everything migrated back. Also, suggest before you start, remove your contacts and calendar items in your devices. Once you change over to iCloud, the only option that you get is to “merge” and can duplicate (or triplicate) your entries.

Would you do me a favor and check that you have the iTunes COM add-in in your Outlook and that it is enabled? I don’t even have one anymore (gone, not just disabled) and can’t find anything on how to reinstall it. I have used Apple’s procedure on how to uninstall iTunes and reinstall hoping that it would reinstall the COM add-in, but didn’t,
even after many attempts.

This is really aggravating me! Good luck.

I posted on this very issue yesterday (no sync of contacts or calendar with Outlook 2016) and have received no responses. Based on my searches over the weekend, i am afraid that we are both SOL. I plan to try the approach of syncing contacts/calendar between Outlook 2016 and my iPhone/iPad via iCloud (Get help using iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders - Apple Support), but i just haven't gotten to it yet. Will let you know when i do, and please post if you find a solution or if iCloud works for you. - mm
