Spotify "Now Playing" for Mac
*Not something that everyone has to do just something that I found out that worked for me*
I use mainly Spotify Premium for my music. Mostly due to the fact that I have about 3,500 songs downloaded over the past 3 years. Thats a lot of work to redownload for Apple Music. I have found it is hard to find anything similar to a mini player for Spotify that works with apple products.
As I am in college I have many windows open at once, even with full screen mode trying to find Spotify to see what song is playing or to scrub or skip is a hassle. I searched for days looking for a simple way to get a mini player that I preferred. I downloaded multiple options from GitHub for a menu bar option, but was not happy with them.
I did notice that with the new updates to my watch and my phone that there was this new feature called "Now playing." where as before I could not see what was playing via Spotify on my watch now it automatically pops up when Spotify was playing with the name of the song and the ability to skip or control the volume for Spotify. It did not occur to me that this feature might be possible on Mac.
I found that in your Notification Center
You can actually edit your widgets and add a now playing section to bring up your Spotify now playing and have all the options a mini player would, this is also accessible in any window you are in.
Alternatively if you have a MacBook that has the Touch Bar there is actually a "Now Playing" button on the left hand side when you have something playing in the background similar to the watch.
