How do I delete clips from iMovie without deleting original

i imported a video then cut it by 50%. The original size was 2 GB, the saved size was 10 GB. I did no other editing. It was a video that I had a service convert from old camcorder days and has family footage on it. Why did it increase so much if it was half the original clip? (I just clipped off the "dead" last part of the imported video.)


Is the original video still there and in tact? And if so how do I delete the clip from iMovie? I decided to leave the original video as is.

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

It is likely the video the service provided you was compressed perhaps H-264 codec. When you saved your edited video you probably used high quality which uses ProRes 422 codec which is an I frame codec and much less compressed so the file is much larger. As to your second question, Cutting your video in the timeline does not affect the imported clip in the media browser.
