Thanks, tygb. I use Sophos as a virus protection but I don't use entrecheck. As I said in my post, I have unchecked the selections in the Search tab of Safari Preferences with the intent of suppressing these "suggestions," but it seems to have no effect. Whenever I type in the search window, Safari and Google offer useless "suggestions" that simply clutter the page. As an experiment, I removed all bookmarks except for a few items in the Favorites bar, but that just gave Safari a smaller universe of items from which to make irrelevant "suggestions." For example, I have nothing in the Favorites bar that begins with the letter K, but if I type K in the search bar, Safari suggests "The New York Times." This tells me that despite what I did on the Search tab of Preferences, the function has not been disabled and Safari is still trying to offer "suggestions." So to repeat my original question, what else do I have to do to turn off this function?
