My keyboard indicate a hash sign together with number 3 but when used, it came out as a pound sign (british currency). How can I change it to a hash as indicated?

I'm using a Macbook Pro (retina, late 2013). My keyboard indicates a hash sign together with number 3 but when used, it came out as a pound sign (british currency). How can I change it to a hash as it should be?

Yes... and also by changing the keyboard preferences -- input source to US.
