Apple Numbers won't print landscape

Im trying to print a spreadsheet in landscape mode but when I check landscape in Numbers it does show it in landscape but when I go to print, the page is still in portrait mode with both the beginning and ending of the spreadsheet cut off? Did someone decide I don't need landscape anymore?

It also does not make any difference which printer I choose, all the same.

I'm currently just trying to print to pdf but it must display first.

Thanks, David

Hi Dave,

That is strange. I can not duplicate the problem. If it is OK with you, remove all sensitive (personal) information from your Numbers spreadsheet and place it on a public website such as Dropbox. Copy the public link and paste the link into a reply in this forum. That will allow members here to take a look and perhaps find out what is wrong.

Thanks for these details: Mac OS 10.13.3 [High Sierra] - Numbers 4.3.1 - iMac 27" Mid 2011

I am running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 with Numbers 4.3.1 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).

Our product details may be important 😕.

Regards,

Ian.

Thanks for responding but can you please re-read line 4. I should note that I'm not new to Mac or computers. I do know how they are supposed to work. my first computer was an Apple ][e in 1980 and never willingly used windows.

Hi Dave,

Those of us who have used computers a long time of course know there is no one way computers "are supposed to work." There is constant change, which often brings little glitches, particularly when it comes to printing.🙂

Numbers in its recent versions is not all that good at printing. A lot of us don't print hardcopies much any more (sharing our work in other ways) so that limitation is not too much of problem.

And note that Numbers isn't very good at "wide" tables such as your screenshot suggests you have. Numbers is more efficient with smaller tables.

If you need precision printing of wide tables then you might be happier working with MS Excel, which is excellent on the Mac. One of the clones might work well too.

If you save your own "printing Preset" it includes the page orientation (since HighSierra), even though the print dialog has no way to edit the page orientation in Numbers & Pages.

Only the default presets changes the orientation according to your file automatically. (for some reason?)

This is clearly a stupid bug in the printer settings of MacOS.

A workaround is to setup separate presets fro landscape and portrait orientation. or only use the default printer setting till Apple finally fixes this issue.
