Freed memory instantly used up by "System" and "Apps"

Hello!

I have Macbook Pro with OS Sierra. I have 156 GB of memory and had 97 GB used by System memory, 30 GB used by Apps and ~30 GB used by Documents. Since I needed more memory I removed some unnecessary files, restarted my computer, and managed to get 35 GB free memory (shown in About This Mac -> Storage). After that my System used ~60 GB of memory, Apps and Documents used as much as before.

But after a few minutes I got notification about low free memory space and I saw that Apps and System memory have increased so much that the memory is almost full again. I only used Safari and did not download anything onto my system during these few minutes.

How is this possible that the memory I freed was completely filled again?

Thank you in advance!

MacBook Pro with Retina display

Thank you all for answering!

Re-indexing did not change much, the numbers shown in Storage section remained almost the same.

For clearing things up I meant SSD memory, not RAM. I am aware how hard disk is used for virtual RAM.

Also, I am not worried about how to clean my hard disk space. I am curious why the space I just cleaned up was filled again with System and Apps storage even when I wasn't downloading nor installing anything. Could it be related to APFS?

I currently use docker a lot for creating docker images, this might take up more ram and swap. To keep things cleaner I frequently prune docker files to remove unused data, I also frequently clear cache memory.

Cleaning caches should not be done as any type of "regular" maintenance. They exist to speed up commonly used processes. Removing them only succeeds in slowing the computer down until it can rebuild them.

Get rid of Teamviewer. Remote access software should never be running without very good reason.

Do you really need a VPN? CyberGhost is doing nothing but eating up system resources.

Google is not your friend. At least, not directly on your computer. Chrome, Google Earth, and any other app from Google are tremendous resource hogs. They all exist to extract your buying and web usage statistics, and upload it to Google as marketing data. That's what the process com.google.keystone.agent.plist is for. This daemon runs the entire time your Mac is on, whether you're using Chrome or not. I for one will not allow any app from Google on any device I own. If you don't care for Safari, try Firefox. Anything but Chrome.

Did you notice that Spotlight was actually indexing, after adding and then removing the HD from the Privacy panel type something in to Spotlight, in a few moments you should see a progress bar appear. If this doesn't happen then you may want to try doing the procedure again but this time add the HD, quit System Preferences, open System Preferences remove the HD, quit System Preferences, now type something into Spotlight. If that doesn't work try a Restart after trying the process again.
