Can I customize Spotlight file types?

How can I customize the Mac to recognize common web design file types such as PHP, ASP and WordPress back ups (.wpress)

Without it I can’t search by Kind - The file type always shows as the generic “file” or “document”.

If you use the search in Finder (⌘F), or the search field of a Finder window, then you’ll have a few more options, including searching for a specific file extension (suffix). You may add ‘file extension’ to the menu list, if you use that search criteria often. You can even save the search, so the dynamic results will always be one click away.
