Do you get any other sounds on the phone, such as ringing for a phone call, notifications for texts, etc.? If not, check the Mute switch on the side of the phone. If you see the orange color, the phone is on Mute. If you are hearing other sounds, or the switch is not on Mute, then you should be receiving mail notification sounds, so long as a sound has been selected.

What troubleshooting have you tried?

If you are using Gmail, are you using the Gmail app on the phone? That is the best thing to use, especially since it supports Push for Gmail, where the Apple Mail app is no longer supported by Gmail for Push.

My suggestion would be to remove all of your mail apps all together. Set Gmail up in the Gmail app, then add the AT&T accounts separately, and test each one. Before adding them back, make sure there are no left over settings for mail in the Mail app, such as servers.

You can silence notifications in some apps, such as Messages. You can use the Hide Alerts selection. So, the only time that you are not getting Notifications is when the phone is locked? You mention opening mail and then check for new mail and it arrives. That doesn't sound like a notification issue, but an email issue with you receiving the mail. It sounds like there is an issue with you receiving mail. If you do not receive mail, there will not be a notification. Go to Settings>Accounts & Passwords, and what do you under Fetch New Data? If you go to Fetch New Data, what is the setting for the mail account you are not receiving mail or notifications from? Push only works for Exchange mail. If you have it set to Fetch, what time setting do you have on? Just curious, but what email provider is this?

I need to clarify the problem is that I am not getting Mail notifications when iPhone is locked. If I open Mail and swipe to check for new mail, it will finally come in and have the alert sound. My sound works. Do not disturb is OFF. Notifications are ON with Sound, Badge App Icon, Show on lock screen, Banner, Persistent. I have been emailing myself from another mail account to test it. I saw in your comment to: Make sure that notifications are not disabled, even if you have them set to on. So - can notifications be disabled somewhere even though I have them set to ON?Thanks!

Hi. I am having the identical problem. I have two separate email accounts, one gmail and one through Exchange. No problem getting email notifications and previews instantly on lock screen with sound on my previous iPhone 5s. Now I don't get them unless my iPhone 8 is open, unlocked. I get texts on the lock screen no problem with sound. I believe all my settings are correct, same as iPhone 5s. Did you solve your problem? Thank you

AT&T I just set this phone up 2 days ago from a Backup. iOS 11.3 My older iPhone worked fine. I guess I need to talk to AT&T, I see that it could be a carrier issue because sometimes when I know new mail should be there it still takes too long to come in (I can see it arrived in my account on the computer). I have deleted the mail account on the phone and re signed into it twice.
