Problem with MS Wiord

I just bought the newest MSWord for Mac, and now, when I receive or generate a doument in it, the results are unsightly. All the text is there, correct font, size, etc., but the whole page is divided up into blocks of type by hairlines, as if pasted up from another app. I've included an image. Either MS is throwing a graphic hissy-fit against Apple, or this is an artifact generated by the application that MS and Apple didn't expect. The solution may necessitate an email to Microsoft, but can anyone give me any insight into the problem?User uploaded file

Is that the way it prints?

There are many settings in Word Processors that allow YOU to see the influences of your formatting commands. One of the oldest is Word's "Show Invisibles" that would give you visible dots for actual spaces, but not for tabs or other formatting that did not have an actual character at that position. It would show end-of-paragraph indicator symbols. None of this was printable.
