FaceTime does not work between iOS 11 and iOS 8 devices

I cannot use now FaceTime between old iPhone4 and iPhone 6s after upgrade of iOS to version 11 (on iPhone 6s). Person with iPhone 4 can see only black screen with message “connection not good” while the connection is VDSL very fast & reliable.

FaceTime between two devices iPhone 4 works fine in same wi-fi network and between iPhone 4 and iPhone 6 which is not updated to iOS 11 and still running under iOS 10.

Should I downgrade my iPhone 6s to be able to have FaceTime with users not having iOS 11 or not afford to get a new iPhone? This is absolutely not right.

You can't downgrade iOS, so forget that option. And your iPhone 4 is running iOS 7, not iOS 8. The easiest solution is to replace the 8 year old iPhone 4. If the iPhone 4 size is still comfortable an iPhone SE would be a good and inexpensive replacement.

One thing to check - if the iPhone "4" is running iOS 8 it is actually a 4S, which you can update to iOS 9.3.2, which would solve the problem.

Hello I tested it also with iPhone 4S running iOS 9 and still get the same problem.

I also tested with iPad mini running iOS 9 and the problem remains.

I updated my iOS two weeks ago and till then I had no problem to have a video FaceTime with any device (iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPad mini).

So your advise does not help. Thank you at any case

I have a 4S running iOS 9 and a 7 Plus running 11.2.6. I have just thoroughly tested FaceTime using both Wi-Fi and cellular data and it worked correctly between these two devices regardless of the type of data connection. So the problems you are experiencing are issues with your specific devices, not some generic problem of incompatibilities between iOS 9 and iOS 11. That information should help your troubleshooting.

I can't address iOS 7 because I have no way of testing it, but it would not surprise me if Apple does not fully support 8 year old devices. I know that there are almost no 3rd party apps left that support the iPhone 4.

Hello, you are right. FaceTime between iPhone 4s (iOS 9) and iPhone 6s (iOS 11) works fine.

However, my issue remains between iPhone 4 (iOS 8) and iPhone 6s (iOS 11).

Same issue between iPad mini (iOS 8) and iPhone 6s (iOS 11).

No problem however between iPhone 4s and iPhone 4. No problem either between iPhone 4 and iPad mini. I made various combinations and the issue is between devices with iOS 8 and iOS 11. I had not problem before updating my iPhone to iOS 11. The iOS 10 worked fine in FaceTime with iOS 8 devices.
