My printer icon disappeared from dock. I tried your suggestion to print from file and click on icon when it appears in dock but it never appears in dock.

My printer icon disappeared from dock and not in files either. When I print from file it does not appear in dock so I can't direct it to stay in dock.

My Mac OS High Sierra Version 10.13.3, Early 20112, Serial # C02FTA5FDH2G, ... The printer is working fine and I can print from the control bar (file print etc.). The problem I am asking about is that the printer icon that used to be on my task bar, is nowhere to be found and I can't click and drag it to the task bar because I can't find it anywhere. It's not anywhere in the apps folder or any other folder for that matter. It's just gone. And when I print from the control bar (above), the icon does not appear on the task bar or any other bar for that matter. I have been trying to get to appear on my task bar but don't know how to do that. The printer works fine and is communicating just fine with the MAC it's just that I don't have an icon to work from as I did in the past. Please help.

It would be helpful to know which model iMac you have and the version of Mac OS X that you are running. What make/model of printer are you trying to use, and how is it connecting to your iMac (wireless, AirPrint, Ethernet)?

Without more information about your specific setup, my recommendation is to verify that your printer is powered ON, it has paper loaded, and there are no error conditions that need to be cleared, then open the System Preferences and select the Printers & Scanners settings to see whether it shows that you have any printers set up for printing. If there are no printers listed click the User uploaded file sign at the bottom of the list and choose the command to add a printer or scanner. If your printer is visible to the iMac then you should be able to set up the printer by clicking on the printer name when it appears in the dialog box, then click on the Add button. This article provides some additional information on troubleshooting printing issues.
