Change to Australian spell-check in Pages

Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar, switch from "automatic" to Australian English.

The Australian Dictionary does now recognise words like Anzac, jackaroo and brumby that it used to not understand but it still is substantially short of the Macquarie Dictionary.

A short list of Australian words it does not understand:

bottlo firie chewie choko carrybag roadtrain sunbake teatowel sandshoes dacks choccy fairyfloss donger truckies stubbie

… and most unforgivable: vegemite!

Now that those Yanks at Mondelez no longer control the brand, ought to go back to the old name Parwill and revive the old "Marmite but Parwill" (Ma might but Pa will) advertising slogan.

Good catch! So it looks as though Document Language & Region is not retrospective. Perhaps intentional, so we can swap back and forth within a document? Hmm, something to try...

Hi SG,

"Marmite but Parwill" (Ma might but Pa will) advertising slogan.

Marmite (British) must be spread very thinly on bread, because spreading as thick as jam gives a burning taste.

Vegemite (Australian) is much milder with an epicurean bouillon flavour. Try a heaped teaspoonful of Vegemite in a cup of hot water.

It is faux Australian English, which you will discover if you test it.

It is just the British English renamed.
