Unable to update iOS 11.3 with iTunes 12.6.3. iTunes is prompting needed to update to iTunes 12.7.3 which is without app store. Guys, we need a new updated version to iTunes 12.6.4

Have you tried directly with both iPhone X and 8Plus?

iTunes 12.6.3.6 works with iPhone 8 plus, at least with 11.2.6 and Sierra

but I read on MacRumors few people were successfully manually doing the update via IPSW and then using iTunes 1 2.6.3.6

From MacRumors

here there are the relevant posts

I haven't tried a restore but backup and sync are working fine between an iPhone 8, iPad Pro 9.7, and and iPod Touch 6th gen. The system is 10.13.3, iTunes is 12.6.3.6. All the iOS devices are on 11.3.

Updated to the most recent High Sierra update that come out today. I am able to sync my iPhone X with iTunes 12.6.3

Anyway it's tiring to go through all this loops

They didn't listen or care when the ripped the App Store

and app management out of iTunes and continued even

further now.

Bottom line, drink the Kool-Aid or live with iOS 11.2 and

iTunes 12.6.3.6 until they finally turn off the App Store switch

to all versions of iTunes (they have done it already for WinXP and

Vista versions).

So much for the feedback to Apple about the App Store and

app management in iTunes! It has been apparently totally and

completely ignored. So much for having a local backup of

your apps as well.

Previously, I was able to download apps and updates to apps

on a computer and back that up as well. I could then install on

my iDevices.

We are now totally and completely dependent on Apple Server

availability and internet if our iDevices decide to take a hike!

So, live with iOS 11.2 and your current iDevice forever, until

Apple totally pulls the plug on the App Store for any version of

iTune or drink the Kool-Aid. They have already done that on

old Windows OSes.

I try to update the iPhone X via OTA, and it works fine with iTunes 12.6.3.6.

You can still sync with iPhone X 11.3 and iTunes 12.6.3.6. (include APPs)

FYI

I hesitate to even attempt OTA updates as I have done it only 3 times in

the past and two of those times ended up having to do a full restore

with iTunes because the OTA bricked the phone.

I always update via MacBook Pro iTunes, except this time.

I don't want to use OTA unless it's absolutely necessary... 😢

There in lies the dilemma. Give up managing your apps

via App Store and computer with 12.6.3 and have local copies

of those apps or move to iTunes 12.7.4 so you can have reliable

updating of iOS (and a copy locally of the update?) and become

totally and completely dependent on an available internet connection

and the availablity of Apple servers should you need to do a full restore

on your iDevice for all your apps.

I'm sure that sooner or later Apple will pull the plug on App Store

in all versions of iTunes (probably sooner). They have already done this

for old Windows OSes (98 and Vista) and their supported versions of iTunes.

The internet is great. The cloud is great. Until it's not!

BTW, I successfully tried an OTA update on a retired 6S (success rate now 50%),

and it does sync apps from iTunes 12.6.3.6.

Still somewhat hesitant to try it on my iPhone 8 as that is my "lifeline".

A question to anyone, has anyone tried to "manually" install/update apps in iTunes 12.7.4

by dragging and dropping the .ipa files to a connected iDevice with iOS 11.3? Does

it still work as in previous versions of 12.7? Or, is that gone as well?
