iTunes 12.7.4 Album Artwork Display

Hello, is anyone else having album artwork display issues under iTunes 12.7.4.76? Under Albums view not all of my album art thumbnails are displaying. I tried deleting the artwork cache but I am still having the same problem. The artwork appears to still be imbedded in the file, but it won't display. It's probably a bug and I have sent a report but I want to see if anyone else is having the same issue?

It seems to be a problem with cover art that does not have a exact square resolution.

Artwork with a resolution of 600x600 or 1400x1400 is displayed fine. Artwork with a resolution of 703x630 is not displayed, even though it is artwork from the iTunes store.

Switching from album display to artist display and back solves the issue and makes the artwork displayed, so does scrolling up and down and waiting some time.

It's a bug in iTunes 12.7.4 as all artwork was displayed fine in the previous iTunes version.

I hope a fix will be delivered soon.

With Mojave 10.14.1 and iTunes 12.9.0.164 I just checked my library. 3 covers out of 516 were not shown in the overview of all albums although they were stored at the right place. I. e. opening the information dialogue for each album the cover was shown. I activated/selected and copied the cover there, inserted it as the second cover, deleted the first one and now the covers are displayed in all views. Same as with previous iTunes versions.

The interesting point now is whether some covers will disappear again as with previous versions. So we should wait a while before we can confirm the solution. At least iTunes 12.9.0.164 does not repair the covers that are not displayed (although still there within the detailed data).

Some of the fixes described by others in this thread work some of the time. I suspect that sometimes it simply takes the album art function a little time to process all the images. When that happens, scrolling down and then back up again or toggling back and forth between the Artists display and the Albums display might prompt reloading of the cover art images. But...sometimes I find a more radical (and time-consuming) approach offers a more permanent fix. You've got to make iTunes physically move your song files. To do this, I select an entire album with missing cover art, Get Info, then change the artist name or the album name (either one will work), save it by clicking Okay, and then I change it back again. For some reason, this seems to work pretty well—and it's actually solved other problems for me on iTunes in the past.

Yes, same here. If you switch to a different view such as track/song list vIew and then back again the missing artwork appears but scroll further down your album view and you will come across some more missing artwork, switch view and back again and the artwork appears!

It's a bug and very annoying, after having been stable for many recent updates. It beggars belief how this passed through BETA testing. Fix it Apple!

Yes. I believe that this may be a bug due to how the images are loaded prior to display.

When the album artwork is being loaded, the display either updates instantly, or some random data is rendered, to be quickly replaced by a blank rectangle. Now click on a playlist, then go back to the album display which did not render correctly: the art now shows up, so iTunes did load it but had trouble rendering it before it was ready to be used.

I believe that the thread which loads the album art in the background and the thread which renders the image may be out of sync, causing the render operation to grab the image before it is ready for display.

Nothing you or me could do anything about it...

Good catch, hardti, although it seems to occur with only some non-square artwork. A lot of my non-square artwork of various proportions shows, but many don't.

Scrolling up and down - and then waiting some time - does not fix the problem for me. I have left overnight with no success (i.e., no loading of artwork).

In the rare case I can tinker around to get the artwork back for a particular album, when I close and reopen itunes, the artwork disappears again. It is always the same albums that are missing artwork.

Deleting the artwork cache does not fix the problem either.

Definitely a bug -- did not happen before the latest update to 12.7.4.76.

My solution was a drastic one. New library was created ( having exported all my playlists and then import after new library created ) and all is well.

All covers are now showing. I lost my song ratings but hey-ho. Other downside is resyncing IOS devices as they are now attached to a new library ( which takes a while if you are downsampling to the IOS device as well as syncing as I am am, trying to squeeze 500GB of music on a 160GB device.

But, everything is now showing consistently.

Hardi hit the nail on the head with his(her) response. I've got well over 1500 cds albums and it is only those whose artwork is not 'square' that does not show. I've deleted my entire library and reloaded everything several times and it's always the same problem. Will forward my issue on to Apple and pray for resolution.
