TextEdit Line Numbers

I have seen quite a lot of posts in the last years asking for line number display ("how to show line numbers in TextEdit app?")

Apparently there is none. There is the command L to jump to a specific line number.

My workaround: Select the whole text (cmd a), then go to "lists" in the menu, select the numbers 1,2,3... and all lines will be numbered. The lines are exactly those you can jump to via "cmd J"

(Watch out: these are lines with Carriage-Return line endings, not the line endings displayed to fit on the page, if that option "fill to page" is selected in Preferences. That is the same case in VIM editor anyway...

null-OTHER, iOS 11.3, TextEdit app
