How to Save a File to Specific Folder

This topic started years ago and there have been good tips, which work some of the time. They are not universal across MacOS and that is one of the elegances of a true operating system like Mac.

Many are converting from Windows to Mac, such as me, and encounter this problem. So, saving files to the correct folder, or creating a new folder extemporaneously, involves multiple steps: Save, Locate, Create Folder perhaps, Move to destination Folder.

The File Saving protocol varies between Apple applications Safari, Pages, Numbers and Keynote and sometimes within an application. Applications from other vendors use their own protocol and that's something we have to live with.

It seems there is some need for architectural direction.

I'm running High Sierra 10.13.3.

Interesting that you assert that the open/save dialog experience is widely different between applications running on the Mac operating system. I use a Mac at home, and Windows at work, and I have the exact opposite reaction. The Mac open/save experience is very consistent across applications, whereas on Windows sometimes I get these retro open/save windows that look like the are from Windows 95, and other times something that looks very Mac-like. Each developer on Windows seems to do their own thing, whereas Apple development tools provide what's needed for consistent look-and-feel.

You can create a new folder from within the open/save dialog box: just hit the "New Folder" button in the lower-left corner. There's a lot of built-in capability there that you may not be aware of. Experiment with it, and you'll see.

Apart from the different features inherent in each app, the Save dialogs are the same, so I'm not sure what you're talking about here.

No, you can name a file and create and name a folder in any location you choose, all in the Save dialogue, so again, I'm not sure what you're speaking of here either.

Most 3rd party - and by most I mean the vast majority - use the same Save dialogue.

I'm not sure this is the case. Why not post some screen shots and illustrate what you're seeing.
