Mail in mailboxes On My Mac. Permanently saved?

When I move emails in Mail to mailboxes On My Mac, are these permanently stored on my Mac? My old email provider is shutting down so I want to check if these historical emails will be preserved once my account is switched off and can't be accessed from their server.

The On My Mac mailboxes aren't connected to/affected by the server so they will remain even after the shutdown.

Mail for macOS Sierra: Import or export mailboxes

I suggest exporting you mail. This way you can tell that you have exported your mail successfully.
