iTunes movie rental says expired, but I just rented it yesterday!!

please help! i rented a movie on iTunes yesterday. It is now on my desktop. I want to transfer it to my iPad. I have done this several times before without trouble. There is PLENTY of room on my iPad. This time however it keeps saying rental expired?
