Using MacBook Pro as keyboard and monitor for iMac

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to use my iMac internals and monitor but keep using my mbp keyboard and trackpad. Ideally my mbp screen could be used as a second monitor, but that's less important.

As far as I can tell things like back to my mac don't support this (via screen sharing), as I would like to use the iMac display, and I get a significant amount of latency screen sharing anyways.

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro, iOS 11.1.2, null

Oh yea. Look at Teleport and Synergy

Teleport - control multiple Macs using a single keyboard and mouse

Synergy is software that lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux), without special hardware. All you need is a LAN connection. It's intended for users with multiple computers, where each system uses its own display.

Nope. Various models of iMac can be used as a display and can use external displays (as was mentioned), and screen sharing and remote access is also an option (as was mentioned), and there are various ways to share files and directories among both devices (including iCloud), but the MacBook Pro internals cannot be bypassed and that device then used as a keyboard and mouse for the iMac.

Your post title indicates that you want to use screen sharing to have you MBP access the iMac remotely. If this is the case, then is should be a simple matter of doing, as a minimum, the following two things:

  1. On the iMac, go to Settings > Sharing > Screen Sharing, and enable it.
  2. On the MBP, open a new Finder window, select the iMac, and then, select Screen Sharing.
