Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that the display on your iMac appears red and yellow, similar to a x-ray. I can surely see how this could be a bit confusing since the color appears as expected when your iMac is initially turned on. I'm am to help.
It's possible your colors have become inverted. To check this feature choose the Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click Accessibility. In the Display section, deselect "Invert colors". If the issue persists use the steps and information in the link below to reset NVRAM on your Mac:
