I'm having trouble selecting and moving mask control points.

I'm trying to mask text so that it appears to come out from "behind" an object in the video. The problem is that I need to adjust some of the control points of the mask, but I can't select any control points that are in the same area as the text box. When I try to click on these points, the text box is selected instead. What do I need to do to solve this?

Can't effectively reveal text with draw mask anymore I used to be able to reveal text as if it were behind an object in my video clip using a draw mask and keyframing. I followed this tutorial (linked at appropriate timestamp) https://youtu.be/hcmsoWZJdTM?t=195, and it worked well about a year ago when I last did it. Now, on FCPX 10.4.1, I can no longer draw control points when the mouse passes too close to the title's moveable box. I can drag one point from outside to inside but this isn't a solution. The cursor changes to the move tool when over the box. I made a clip to demonstrate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP24vBFsAN4 I was really surprised to see this had stopped working. It's really simple so I would've noticed if this were happening last time. Is there a way to stop the title's box from highlighting when I'm drawing the mask? Thanks! Alex

How to remove control points after cutting off a selection with draw mask? Good morning. Have tried to use the 'draw mask' effect for the first time. After adding control points to the selection, the control points continue to stay around and do not disappear. What should I do to make them disappear? On the time line I have the video layer, and the title layer above that. I don't have a duplicate of the video layer. The text is animated. The mask is on the text layer.

Thanks Karsten, at least now I know it's not just me! Unfortunately it really limits what can be done with draw masks and titles. I hope they fix it.

I'll have to look into that. I've only just recently started using FCPX and I don't know what a compound is.

Let’s see the layers in the timeline. Is the text animated? Does it move? You should have three layers. The bottom and the top are duplicate images of the valley. The mask is on the bottom layer and cuts off the top portion of the screen. The text is between the two video layers. Is that what you’re doing? With the bottom layer with the mask selected you should be able to click the draw mask points. You might need to zoom into the viewer to do it with more accuracy.
