music.app stuttering

Frequent stuttering while listening to downloaded music on iPhone 6. Music is max bitrate 128kbps, limited by the iTunes sync. Conditions: Headphones or no headphones, bluetooth on or off, wifi on or off, Airplane mode or no, with or without any other apps running, rebooted and only Music.app running - you name it. Battery condition 91% and "peak performance" is still the default mode - nothing to adjust there. I even tried low power mode to make sure there was nothing else going on.


Other apps do not show this behavior - Overcast, Audible, etc. It seems very specific to this app.

Okay, tried it myself. The issue went away after updating. I tried both the betas of 11.4.1 and 12.

The post from Christoffee makes me think that it's not a iOS issue as much as it is a problem caused during the system update.


Bottom line: either you restore the phone (making sure you have backup etc obviously), or if you can upgrade the phone do that instead. 11.4.1 should come out any day now.


Advice: force close every app you might have running on the phone before upgrading.

I see that music you've downloaded to your iPhone with your Apple Music subscription seems choppy. Great job on the troubleshooting you've completed and I'm happy to help.


How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- First, force close Music application if it's open, then -- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Restart your iPhone. Once it's returned to the Home screen, test the issue.


Remove built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iOS 10 device or Apple Watch -- Remove then restore the Music app. You'll need to download a song in order to test again.

I get the stuttering issue on my iPhone 7 Plus with my own synced music. If I remember right it started after the upgrade to iOS 11.3 but continues with iOS 11.4. It happens both with wired headphones and CarPlay. Usually unplugging then replugging fixes it, but the last time it happened just now it came back shortly after. A hard reset has fixed it for now it seems.

Having the same issue. I believe it started around April. It stopped after the last update but I just installed 11.4.1 and its back. It happens most often with downloaded podcasts and downloaded music in Itunes. Incredibly frustrating and I'll be stopping my subscription to iTunes and switching over to Apple's competitor until I hear this issue is fixed.
