Wacom Intuos pen tablet and MacBook Pro

I want to use a Wacom Intuos CTH-690 pen tablet with a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" (Mac OSX 10.13.3). The MacBook Pro has the latest Wacom driver installed (WacomTablet_6.3.29-6.dmg). There is "Wacom Tablet" in System Preferences. The MacBook Pro also has the "Ink" preference pane in System Preferences.

I want to use the pen tablet like an electronic "chalkboard". I want to record the notes and drawings that I would normally put on the board, but save them as PDF files for my students to download. For years I have used an old Wacom Graphire 3 pen tablet with the "Ink" application, but I need to move on to a better solution.

How can I use the Wacom pen to write notes and sketch in Microsoft Word (2016)?

I have connected the Wacom pen tablet to a PC laptop (Windows 7), and I can use it to write notes and drawings in a Microsoft Word 2013 document. I have connected the Wacom pen tablet to the MacBook Pro and can move the cursor using the pen on the tablet, but that is all I have been able to do.

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), MacBook Pro 2017 15 inch
