Airpods changing sound when on phone calls
My sound will be super slow and deep for a brief time - the person on the other side of the call says I sound like a chipmunk.

- Put your AirPods in the case and close the lid. Wait 15 seconds, then open the lid.
- Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash amber a few times, then flash white.

I have been having this issue for a while as well. The people I am talking to report that I sound like a chipmunk, while on my end they sound super slow and deep voice. Lasts 4-5 seconds and seems to happen one time on every call.
Really looking forward to a fix on this.
I'm having the same issue as others. I've only noticed it when using a Bluetooth headset. I thought it was my headset since it is getting pretty old and the battery was running down quickly so I purchased another one. It just happened again with the new headset. The voices that I hear on my end are slow and garbled while the person on the other end of the phone hears very fast cartoon/chipmunk voices. Very irritating and unprofessional. Using an iPhone 7+ with a Plantronics Bluetooth M165 headset. No issues when using it with the car Bluetooth at this point.
I’m having the same issue with the “chipmunk sound” on other end and I hear “slow motion sound” on my end. I have an iPhone 7 Plus, just did iOS 11.4 update, still happens. I only get it when I’m making calls on Bluetooth headphones (Bose QC 35 II)
I’m having the same issue with AirPods and Bluetooth in the car. I rely on my AirPods for conference calls but can’t use them for that purpose right now because of the slo-mo / chipmunk effect. Apple, you have to do better than this! (iPhone 7Plus)
I’m also experiencing the same fast/slow speech problem on my 6SP. It happens on almost every call using either AirPods or Bluetooth connection to my vehicle. I’m pretty sure it has occurred occasionally when not using any Bluetooth device, but have not confirmed that yet as I use Bluetooth devices most of the time.
The problem started shortly after an iOS update a few months ago and has continued after further updates, if anything it has become more frequent.
My carrier is AT&T. Can people on other carriers with this problem speak up so we can rule out something carrier specific?
I’m on Sprint, having the same issue, chipmunk/slo mo. 7+, 11.4, while in Bluetooth. I performed a restore, but than had to go back to my iCloud backup because I was missing contacts. It seemed to be better for about a week and than it started happening again.
I have been dealing with this for 6 to 8 weeks. This is a business line and use it all day long. This condition occurs with headset, car Bluetooth, regular phone and speaker phone. It even happened while on the phone with Verizon tech support. She was literally freaked out!
I have reset my phone to original, swapped into another phone with no change. Yesterday 6/14/18 was the worst day ever. 10 calls in a row and it happened. It doesn't matter if I'm moving or sitting still. I hear a click and then the person on the other end goes to slow motion sound. This is followed up with that person saying I sounded like Alvin the chipmunk. This was humorous for a day or so, but this is affecting my ability to communicate for work.
Apple please feel free contact me for any further questions.
I'm wondering is anyone experiencing this challenge on and Iphone X? It looks like this issue is isolated to 6, 6+ and 7, 7+ models.
Is that a safe assumption. I just can't continue to deal with this.
I'm still having the issue, on both Air Pods and Bose QC 35 II, the apple store ran a diagnostic test on my 7+ and said the phone is fine, and that I should try a restore again. I Hate to go through that again..has anyone had success with a restore?
Restore didn't work for me. In fact I just went into the Apple Store this weekend and they gave me a new 7+ replacement phone. I was very excited and hoped that this would fix the problem. I'm sorry to say that I've already had the problem again this morning.
I have the 7 plus with 11.4 and still experiencing the same issue. It began happening at the time I purchased the AirPods. It is as if the frame rate of the people talking is being compressed, digitized, and uncrompressed. It does happen quite often.
Have had this same issue on 7+ Verizon for a couple of months.
1. Was told to turn off LTE for Voice. That didn't work
2. Was told to reset my iPhone and restore from backup. That didn't work
3. Was told to completely wipe my iPhone and set up as a new phone. That took an afternoon and didn't work
Issue happens both when using AirPods and when using iPhone headset for audio.
This is something in iOS that needs to be fixed.
I downloaded 11.4.1 and I’m still having the issue.
Very frustrating as this is my business line.
10 years ago I had a Blackberry using a Jawbone earpiece that had better call quality than I have with my 7+
This is AWFUL! If Apple doesn't chime in soon and fix this mess, I'm inclined to head to Androidland. SUPER-frustrating, as I use my iPhone7 and AirPods for work purposes. Been going on for months, and it's getting really old. Let's keep hammering Apple until they hear us. They need to stop acting like they don't know what's going on, as there are lots of links out there with people talking about it. So frustrated. Has anyone else gotten a better explanation from Apple yet?
I am with you I have about 25 cell phones for my company and I’ve had complaints from for people with the 7 and 7 pluses and using air buds.
*** what am I suppose to do Every conversation I have I have to apologize twice through the conversation because I sound like a chipmunk and they sound like a blob. This is totally unacceptable
