My sound will be super slow and deep for a brief time - the person on the other side of the call says I sound like a chipmunk.
iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 11.3, Airpods - first production
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the icon next to your AirPods.1 Then tap Forget This Device.
- Put your AirPods in the case and close the lid. Wait 15 seconds, then open the lid.
- Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash amber a few times, then flash white.
- Place your AirPods close to your device. Follow the steps on your iOS device's screen.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Just lining up with you guys here. Same sad problem on my 7 Plus.
I'm having the same problem on an iPhone 7 running 11.3. I've taken the advice provided by sterling r and will report back.
Having the same issue started about 5-7 days ago. Did what Sterling said. Will see in a few days.
The problem continues but the frequency has dropped dramatically. Happened on only one call today vs 6 calls yesterday.
