Hello lightlyoz,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with static while on phone calls when using your iPhone with CarPlay, but this issue doesn't happen when using Bluetooth. To help with this, please follow these steps from this Apple resource on CarPlay issues, including contacting the car stereo manufacturer for available updates.

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

Same issue here, started after 11.3 update. I have a 2017 Chevy Colorado. Static occurs when using the cable (have tried several cables with no change in the issue). Static occurs when playing podcasts, music app, and phone calls. Static begins after a few minutes of use. I can switch to the FM radio and then back to Carplay (or disconnect and then reconnect cable) and it seems that the static will go away for quite some time but eventually returns.

I will just add mine to the list. Like everybody else I get static. It might go 3 hours and never appear or 3 minutes and start up. Mine is in a 2016 Ford F150. I have found that disconnecting and reconnecting the USB will fix it temporarily but the easiest thing I've found is just hitting the radio power button off and immediately back on again. That stops it for an undetermined amount of time. Might come back in 10 minutes, might not come back for hours.

Very disappointed in Apple for not fixing this. Apple car play is not a selling feature if it doesn't work properly.

Just spent 35 minutes on the phone with Apple Support (supervisor). Same description of problem and let them know that:

  • I am on the latest iOS release
  • The problem has occurred since the release of 11.3
  • I am using an Apple Lightning Cable
  • The problem exists in my 2017 Chev Tahoe and my husband's 2017 Ford Raptor
  • The problem exists in both vehicles with my iPhone 7+ and hubby's iPhone X
  • The the static is intermittent - doesn't start out that way, but begins sometime 2-5 minutes after using CarPlay
  • Static is background, but pervasive and intrusive
  • Occurs with both music and phone
  • Rebooting the phone / unplugging & replugging / restarting the car does not solve the problem
  • Chevrolet claims there is no firmware update needed for their infotainment system

The issue was referred to engineering. Apple supervisor (I have his name and contact info) is going to call me back on Tuesday (6/19/2018) 8:30 EST with status. If you want to call and report your issue, you can refer to my case # ****

I don't think this is solved I run 11.4. Crackling seems to randomly appear. It goes away momentarily if I switch apps, from say the Sirius app to Podcasts, but returns eventually. I've resorted to using bluetooth without any issues. Would really like Apple to get this figured out. I have a 2017 Chevy Volt and am using an 6s Plus with a brand new Apple lightening cable.

I have this issue as well. iPhone 7, iOS 11.3, and a 2017 Mustang with a Ford Sync 3 (which claims not to have any available CarPlay updates)

Since installing 11.3, the audio over the wired connection will randomly be filled with static. Disconnecting the phone and reconnecting resolves it temporarily, but it comes back. Seemingly it happens more often/faster after invoking any voice control like Siri or dictation in a text box.

The static happens not only during phone calls but regular music playback, Siri, etc.

Same issue here. I have iPhoneX, 11.3, and two GM vehicles (2016 Camaro SS and 2017 Colorado). Both started doing this right after the 11.3 update.

I wish Apple would stop putting resources on silly gimmicks like Animoji and start cleaning up the bugs that affect the ability for core features to work correctly. iMessages is another sad situation relative to bugs that should just no exist at this point.
