Drains battery in sleep - High Sierra / MacBook Pro Early 2013

My setup:

MacBook Pro Early 2013

High Sierra 10.13.4

FileVault On

First of all, I used all recommendations I had found on Internet regarding the Battery drain issue during sleep, including:

- clean install of the latest Mac OS (10.13.4)

- reset NVRAM, SMC

- restore to defaults "Energy saver settings"

- turn off WiFi, bluetooth

- disconnect usb and all other cables

- use only Safari (no chrome)

- turn off various services (like dropbox)

- various settings via pmset

- etc.

No major changes. In fact, I even changed the battery in the official Apple service center! It shows "Normal" now.

I read all the posts on various forums. It is my last hope to find a solution before switching to "power off only" way to use with the Mac.

Other days I tried leaving 100% charge. It doesn't matter.

Any ideas how to track the issue or what else to do?

I finally solved the problem with my MacBook Pro. I have a USB wireless mouse. If I remove the USB transmitter the computer no longer heats up in sleep mode and the battery does not drain. If the USB transmitter is left plugged in, the battery drains from 100% to 62% in overnight sleep mode and the computer is warm. This has been an issue since the 10.13.4 update.

I cannot confirm that it is only with 10.13.4. I think I had issues with earlier releases of High Sierra. I would put MacBook Pro in my bag (in sleep mode), later I would take it away hot as **** with fans running full speed. The sleep mode was broken earlier than 10.13.4. At the same time, I cannot recall that I had 100% to 0% after a few hours of sleep mode back then. 100% to 0% started later, I guess, but not sure it was only in 10.13.4

Hello

Same here, since the last update. Contacted apple they advised to re-install or do a clean installation. I didi re-install.

I tried to pull a log. It appears that there are some activities related to bluetooth. I tried turning it off but still. It drains battery.

As far as a I know you can only prevent this by turning off the mac.

Anyone explored a solution yet?!

FOUND TEMPORARY FIX:

I have the same issue with mbp2016 after upgrading to High Sierra 10.13.4 that gets the battery fully drained overnight during sleep mode.

I use my computer for work so its plugged in to an external display, and 2 other peripherals when I put it to sleep. If I unplug all other devices before I put it to sleep mode the battery does not drain. Hope it helps other people while we wait on a on an update that fixes this.

I had the same problem with my 2013 Macbook Air after updating to 10.13.4. Tried everything here and elsewhere unsuccessfully. Then I noticed in Apple's fine print that in addition to external USB devices and displays (that I never left connected overnight), an SD card could also prevent sleep. I've kept a Transcend 64GB SD card inserted in my MBAs ever since my first one in 2010 with no sleep issues. Took it out and the sleep problem disappeared, confirmed now by a continuous week of virtually zero battery drain overnight. So IMHO THAT's what Apple changed with 10.13.4 to cause this problem.

Of course, I have similar experience. The problem with the heat is related to the following. The Mac keeps working because of poor code by Apple and doesn’t go to sleep. Eventually, after you put it in a bag, it gets hot. No air conditioning in your bag. You may notice the macbook’s fans working full speed in the bag too. No use , of course. The temperature is related to the main issue. No good sleep mode when closing the lid.

PS the same stuff happens with sleep on Mojave beta. The issue remains there as in High Sierra. I may switch back to the normal release version of high Sierra
