Can I adjust proximity sensor settings?

On multiple occasions, if I'm using my iPhone 7 Plus in landscape my screen goes dark. After a lot of research I found this is due to the proximity sensor. I understand the reason for it, but I can't seem to find a way to adjust the sensitivity or to disable while using apps.

The proximity sensor shouldn't darken the screen unless you're using the the Phone app. If it's doing it at other times, there's something wrong.

I'd suggest making an appointment at your local Apple Store to have it evaluated. You can try restoring it from a back up, and, if that doesn't help, restoring it as new. However, proximity sensor issues are almost always hardware. But, as you have to make sure the phone is back up before taking it in, it can't hurt.
