Disable “Draw” when using Apple pencil in Notes and Pages

Support had no options... When using my Apple Pencil I rarely (or never) want to draw in either Notes or Pages App. I would like a toggle capability (off and on) for the drawing option for the Pencil.

My 12.9 iPad Pro defaults to drawing mode and thinks I want to scribble whenever the iPencil is used to try to select something in one of these Apps. I find it excruciatingly annoying to have to put my iPencil down when using it and then have to use my finger to close a drawing box I never wanted. Then I must manually delete the drawing box. To add insult to lost performance, I am subsequently forced to manually confirm that I want to delete what I just told my Apple device to delete.

Were too many Microsoft software Engineers and programmers hired when this feature was added?

This is a user-to-user forum. Apple doesn't read here for suggestions. You can let them know what you'd like to see here:

Thankyou for the link.

I spent a long time with support and as a result was sent a link to a very basic article on how to use my Apple pencil (which I have been using since day 1). I posted that the article was not relevant and a link led here to post on the forum.

I have exausted too much time with a situation that Apple has been notified of. I do not want a h]job as a software engineer. I am also going to propose that when a user finds problems with Apple products (hardware or software) and asks that the problem be escalated that ALL Apple employees proceed in moving the issue up the food chain... instead of reading from a script.

Just because you think it's a problem doesn't necessarily mean Apple does. From what I can tell, this was an intentional change.

And you are pleased now that in two Apple primarily text based Apps that the only use for it by default is to handwrite notes when there is not yet a reliable OCR component to those Apps like way back when in Palm OS?

Apple put the cart before the horse. Mistake #2 in this feature.

I also disagree with your original premise to the extent that Apple does not come to the forum looking for suggestions... they do monitor it though.

There is a more robust discussion in another thread if you are interested.

I have no problem with it. I use the Pencil primarily for handwritten notes. That was why I bought it. I can't imagine using it for navigation. I find using my fingers much easier.

Yes, they do monitor the forums, a thankless, overwhelming job with too few people to do it. They don't have time to read for suggestions.

I pretty much gave up on the thought that I felt that somehow this forum did nothing but waste precious time. I think if enough people, whether it be in politics or a user forum, band together than huge things can be accomplished. Apple for all the talk of social & business responsibility could take some of its huge profits and invest them into more jobs. Some of them could be better monitoring and response to user forum issues.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Discussion of Apple's policies are a violation of the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we registered.

Best of luck.

I did however discuss one option for Apple to consider if it ever monitors this thread that would improve the user experience and make the forum more effective.

Of course, as Apple doesn't read here for suggestions.......

BTW, since I work in a bookstore I have to suppose the reports of your demise are greatly exaggerated.

It's amazing what you can do with witchcraft. 😀
